Code of Conduct
Professional and ethical standards for ADA-certified doulas.
As an ADA-certified doula, you are expected to uphold the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct. This Code of Conduct outlines the principles that guide our certified doulas in providing exceptional, culturally sensitive care.
Professional Standards
Professional Standards
Maintain professional competency through ongoing education and stay current with best practices in postpartum care.
Practice Within Your Scope
Provide only services you are trained and certified to offer. Refer clients to appropriate clinicians for medical concerns outside a doula's scope.
Maintain Certifications
Keep ADA certification current through timely renewal and continuing education requirements.
Professional Communication
Communicate clearly, respectfully, and honestly with clients, their families, and the broader care team.
Client Care Principles
Client-Centered Care
Center the client's needs, values, and choices in every aspect of care, honoring their autonomy and lived experience.
Informed Consent
Provide clear information so clients can make informed decisions about their care, always seeking consent before acting.
Confidentiality
Protect client privacy. Do not share personal, medical, or family information without explicit, written consent.
Non-Discrimination
Serve all families equitably, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, language, family structure, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
Cultural Sensitivity
Honor each family's cultural traditions and integrate them thoughtfully with evidence-based postpartum care.
Ethical Guidelines
Integrity and Honesty
Represent credentials, experience, and scope of practice honestly. Avoid misleading claims in marketing and consultations.
Conflict of Interest
Disclose any potential conflicts of interest to clients and act in their best interest at all times.
Professional Boundaries
Maintain clear professional boundaries with clients and their families, even in the intimate setting of postpartum care.
Reporting Obligations
Report concerns about abuse, neglect, or safety risks in accordance with applicable laws and ADA policy.
Accountability
Accept responsibility for professional conduct and cooperate with ADA review processes when concerns arise.
Enforcement
Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or revocation of ADA certification. If you become aware of a potential violation, please report it to the Asian Doula Alliance at contact@asiandoula.org. All reports will be reviewed confidentially.
